The mission of Oak Hill is to enhance independence and quality of life for people with disabilities, including visual impairments, by setting the standard in providing innovative solutions, program excellence, services and advocacy.
Description:
Oak Hill has 120 program sites located in 59 Connecticut towns, including: community-based residential, education and day programs for children and adults with multiple disabilities; housing and support for blind adults; operates the Oak Hill Center for Relationship & Sexuality Education, promoting safe and healthy relations for people with developmental disabilities; and The NEAT Center at Oak Hill which brings people with disabilities together with equipment that enhances their independence. Of the 20,750 people served from 6 to 100 years old, 20,000 of those are assisted through The NEAT Center at Oak Hill.
History:
Oak Hill is a private, not-for-profit which was founded in 1893 as a school for blind children. In the mid 1970's, Oak Hill expanded its mission to serve people with severe multiple disabilities, including mental retardation, and opened its first group home in the community.
