BACS Adult Day Care
The mission of BACS Adult Day Care is to provide socialization and meaningful activities for people with dementia and/or frail older adults along with respite and support for caregivers.
Description:
BACS Adult Day Care provides help and support for older adults experiencing chronic health problems, including Alzheimer's disease, so they may continue to remain in the community. The program also provides respite for family members and other caregivers. The Day Care offers a structured program of activities led by Pleasant Valley Adult School teachers and trained staff, both paid and volunteer. Activities include memory exercises, reminiscing, mild body exercise, arts and crafts, games, music and singing, group discussion, field trips and guest speakers. Support services include door to door transportation (for residents of Oakland, Berkeley and Piedmont) and nutritionally balanced lunches and snacks. The day care program is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with a maximum of 25 clients in attendance each day. We encourage people interested in volunteering to call and visit. Ongoing orientation and training is provided.
History:
Bay Area Community Services' Older Adult programs offer a wide spectrum of elder support including affordable health care, care management, meals on wheels, senior nutrition and Money Management Assistance. The adult day care has been an integral part of these services for the past 19 years.
