This spring, The Arlington Food Assistance Center's "Plant a Row for the Hungry" project continues working in the community to bring fresh, nutritious produce to the 800-some families who come to AFAC for food assistance each week. "Plant A Row" project encourages local home & community gardeners to plant an extra row of produce in their gardens to help AFAC hunger relief efforts. Donations of surplus vegetables from your bumper crops are welcomed.
To help gardeners start planting, AFAC will provide free packets of vegetables or herb seeds throughout the spring & summer to anyone agreeing to donate the produce back to AFAC. AFAC encourages both novice and seasoned gardeners to get involved. Gardens big and small can all yield extra fresh produce for individuals and families in need. Simply send a self-addressed, stamped (2 first-class stamps) envelope to: Arlington Food Assistance Center, Plant a Row, PO Box 6261, Arlington, VA 22206-0261 or call Puwen Lee, AFAC's Plant a Row Coordinator at (703)845-8486 to arrange for a time to come by & pick up seeds.
Anyone who is interested in gardening & hunger issues is welcome to join this new project!
