The Center for Black Women's Wellness, Inc. is a community-based, family service center. The center's primary purpose is to improve the mental, physical and spiritual growth of women and their families and the economic growth of communities.

Located in a multi-purpose community center, the Center primarily services families in the surrounding area. This 3.5 square mile area is just south of downtown Atlanta, Georgia and has numerous health and social challenges as well as assets from which to build. With a population of about 15,000, the Center's focus area includes the communities of Mechanicsville, Pittsburg, Summerhill, Peoplestown, Adair Park, and Capitol Homes. The Center also serves women and families throughout Metropolitan Atlanta.

Brief Overview of CBWW Programs:

Maternal and Infant Health: This program provides resources and support to mothers before and after pregnancy. The program utilizes trained community workers and health care staff to link participants to needed services and provide health education.

Women's Economics Self-Sufficiency Program: This program assists women in developing micro-businesses by providing personal and business development training, technical assistance and access to credit resources.

Wellness Program: The Wellness Program provides preventive health screening and assessment, health education and instruction on self-care techniques.

Adolescent Health and Youth Development: This program provides valuable life skills training to youths through its after school and summer youth leadership training programs.

History:
Established in 1988 as a program of the National Black Women's Health Project, the Center was conceived as a program that would one day be independent. In 1996, the Center was incorporated as an independent, non-profit organization.
