Good Mews Animal Foundation
Voted a "Best Place to Adopt a Pet" by the readers of Atlanta Magazine for the last two years, we are Atlanta's original volunteer-based no-kill, cage-free shelter for cats and kittens. Cats are housed at our shelter and in foster care programs in loving homes.
Description:
Good Mews is a non-profit, cage-free, no-kill shelter located in Atlanta, Georgia. Now in our 21st year, we have helped almost 5,000 cats in need. Good Mews Animal Foundation's major program is to adopt cats into loving committed homes. Other programs include working to end pet over population through educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering. (All Good Mews cats are spayed and neutered as we have implemented an early spay/neuter program.) We also educate the public on coping with behavioral problems, the benefits of pet ownership and general cat care. Since our cats come to us from households that can no longer care for them or as strays or ferals, many arrive abused, neglected or terribly afraid. Often times, these cats need major medical care which is administered by various veterinarians who work with Good Mews to keep our cats healthy. Our dedicated volunteers spend countless hours cuddling, grooming and helping these cats to trust and love humans again.
Adoptions are held at the shelter on Saturdays from 10am-5pm, all but the last Sunday of each Month from 1pm-4pm and by appointment during the week. Adoptions are also conducted at Our off-site adoptions are at Pet Supplies Plus on the first Saturday of the month from 10 am- 4 pm. Located in the Kroger shopping center at 2960 Shallowford Road, Suite 114-b Marietta, GA 30066. 770-973-3551
History:
Good Mews was founded in 1988 by Gloria Skeen who wanted to find an alternative to shelters that euthanize animals. Cats are caged only for medical observation and a three week quarantine period upon arrival to the shelter. Otherwise, the cats are free to roam the shelter, interacting with each other, volunteers and visitors. We find loving homes for all our cats or they have a home for life at Good Mews or in our foster care program. No cat is ever euthanized to make room for another cat. Good Mews frequently participates in rescue efforts, including Hurricane Katrina and recently, the rescue of 15 Persian cats from the home of a breeder & hoarder. see our website for more information.
