S.A.V.E (Students Against Violence Education)
Logo

Our Mission is to educate all students about making safe, healthy and positive life choices.

Description:
We are a 501(c)(3) Not-For-Profit organization. We provide informative violence prevention assemblies for schools and organizations in Erie County while collaborating with NYS Trained resource Officers.

We also have the S.A.V.E. Critical Issues Curriculum which is a Character Education Curriculum for grades k-8th. We work closely with area schools and community organizations to train facilitators such as parents, faculty and student mentors to deliver the S.A.V.E. curriculum and make our schools a safer place.

History:
In 1994, the students of the 4th grade class at St. Vincent de Paul School in Suburban Buffalo, New York were having trouble getting along with each other. one of the students came home and told his mother about classmates fighting and picking on one another.
Being both a concerned parent and homeroom mother. Connie Cavanaugh received permission from the school principal to work with class for an hour each week, discussing the students' fears about violence in schools . They decided to make make all young people aware of how to deal with violence around them with out resorting to violence themselves.
The students wrote editorial letters to newspaper, contacted television reporters and called the Erie County Executive Office and Sheriff's Department. The Sheriff responded to the students and arranged for an assembly to present issues of violence, drugs and conflict resolution. The assembly was covered by the newspaper and local television stations. Other schools began to inquire about having their own S.A.V.E assemblies.
This is how S.A.V.E began to offer these informative assemblies in area school district.
