Child & Family Services is a private, not-for-profit family services agency that strengthens families and promotes the well-being of children through prevention, intervention, education and advocacy. Our vision is one of safe and healthy children, families and communities.

Description:
We provide children, adults, families and businesses with a vast array of mental health and human service programs including: family counseling, family mental health services, preventive services; foster care, special needs adoption and after-hours protective services; residential treatment services for youth; special education programs; domestic violence prevention, treatment and intervention services; employee assistance programs; senior services; after-hours emergency housing/shelter services; AIDS programs; family/auto loan programs, and family life education.

History:
In 1872, upon recognizing a need in the community, some of Buffalo's most prominent residents sponsored a Thanksgiving Dinner for 180 orphaned and homeless boys. This dinner focused attention on a growing problem in the thriving city - how to care for the children living in the city streets who were barely surviving as newsboys and bootblacks. In January 1873 the people of Buffalo did something quite extraordinary. They founded the Buffalo City Children's Aid Society, the first city-wide charitable organization in the United States. This program was the forerunner to Child & Family Services.

Child & Family Services has many locations throughout Western New York, however the Development Department is located on our Delaware Avenue campus near Bryant.
