The mission of the Amherst Youth Board is to serve youth and families through youth development, advocacy, prevention and intervention programs that strengthen families and commmunities.

Description:
The Amherst Youth Board is an organization offering varied services in support of children, youth and families living in the Town of Amherst. Chartered by the Amherst Town Board and New York State Executive Law, the agency is governed by a policy-making board of 23 citizen volunteers, comprising both adults and youth. Members are appointed by the Amherst Town Board for three-year terms and participate in decisions affecting programming, policies, funding and public relations for youth programs and services.

History:
The Amherst Youth Board has provided programs and services to Town of Amherst and Village of Williamsville youth since 1972. The Youth Board initially began as a youth program under the local YMCA. Several years later, the Amherst Youth Board was created and assumed responsibility for youth programming once administered through the YMCA. Amherst Youth Board programs and services have grown over time to meet the needs of youth in the community. Throughout the last decade, the Youth Board has annually enriched the lives of more than 10,000 young people and their families who reside within the Town of Amherst, New York.

Successful in the past and committed in the present to meeting the growing and complex needs of children, youth and families, the agency underwent a strategic planning process in 2000. The strategic plan guides the programs, services and activities of the organization as it enters the beginning of the new millennium.
