WNY United Against Drug & Alcohol Abuse, Inc.

Western New York United Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse is a grassroots initiative designed to increase awareness, educate and mobilize individuals to actively, undertake proven strategies to prevent substance abuse. WNY United is your prevention connection. We provide schools and communities with the tools necessary to prevent the abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other dangerous drugs.

Description:
The only cost-effective solution to the complex web of problems caused by alcohol and other drug abuse is PREVENTION, a proactive process to keep healthy people healthy and bolster those at risk.

WNY United enters into long-term partnerships (minimum of three years) with schools and communities where significant risk factors for substance abuse are present. After agreements are signed between WNY United and the school, a team made up of teachers, parents, administrators, students, and other concerned community members comes together under the guidance of a trained WNY United Prevention Specialist. This School Community Action Team (SCAT) is trained to develop and implement a comprehensive substance abuse prevention program and to foster the development of healthy, capable young people. SCATs identify and maximize resources and ensure that adequate training, materials, and services are available. They have access to all WNY United programming, including some prevention opportunities designed exclusively for them.

History:
WNY United has been providing high quality prevention programs to the western region of New York State since 1986. Under the guidance of founding co-chairs Bob and Mindy Rich, WNY United has emerged as a local leader in the substance abuse prevention field.
