Harvest House
The purpose of Harvest House is to serve those in need through various outreach programs with an emphasis on helping children.
Description:
Harvest House provides meeting space for non profit and community organizations. Up to 2000 people use the building each month for activities such as support meetings, block clubs, bible study, scouting, and spiritual retreats. Through the Baby and Children's Outreach Program, Harvest House is the largest supplier of FREE baby items and baby and children's clothing in the tri-county area. 160+ agencies refer clients to this program. In 2008, 5,846 children received items from us.
History:
Harvest House began in 1993 when co-founders Gary and Linda Tatu sold their home in the suburbs to buy and refurbish a derelict city church. The organization has four paid staff and over 150 volunteers. In 2003, after paying off the mortgage on Harvest House, a second building was donated. The building located at 175 Jefferson Avenue is the Harvest House Ministry Center and houses Good Neighbors Health Care, a free health center for the uninsured and underinsured offering primary care, vision care and prescription eyeglasses, dental, and chiropractic care. The ministry center also is home to New Hope Education Center, an educational facility for adults offering various classes and courses aimed at helping the community achieve their goal of a better job. Classes offered include GED, Pre-GED, Medical Office Occupations, Licensed Practical Nursing, Certified Nursing Assistant and March to Success, a tutoring program for military recruits. This unique center will be a role model for the country and bring recognition to the city of Buffalo.
