Agency Details:

Massachusetts Avenue Project

MAP's mission is to nurture the growth of community food systems to promote local economic opportunities, greater access to affordable nutritious food and social change education.

Description:
Growing Green, MAP's signature program, is an urban agriculture youth development program, that includes an urban farm and greenhouse, a Farm to School Program, a youth dinner coop, a Mobile Market and Youth enterprise program. We employ about 50 teens each year who are trained to be community leaders and trainers.

History:
MAP began organizing in 1992 around issues of the lack of healthy alternatives for neighborhood youth. In 1994, MAP secured over $500,000 and organized over 600 volunteers to build a playground in just over 5 days. Following this success, MAP hired its' first staff person and was incorporated in 2000. Since then MAP has designed programs aimed at revitalizing our neighborhoods through the vehicles of food, gardening and economic development.
