WNED TV-AM-FM is a non-profit organization committed to bringing quality programming to this region. Its mission is to enlighten, inspire, entertain and educate our communities.
Description:
Membership support ensures the viewer that they will be getting the most accurate information, the highest quality entertainment and some of the most inspirational shows on television. The agency is run by a President, Don Boswell, a staff of approximately 100 persons and answers to a Board of Directors who have an interest in the well-being of Western New York and Southern Ontario.
History:
WNED signed on the air in 1959 as the first educational TV station in New York state. Its purpose: to encourage the educational, intellectual and cultural growth of the community. It has always been a non-commercial station whose operating budget is funded by member donations,county, state and federal grants, corporations, private foundations and production income. In 1976 Newsradio 970 and all classical WNED-FM begin operation. Through the years WNED has been instrumental in not only offering quality television and radio, but also producing programming for national use such as the Emmy Award winning Reading Rainbow, The Mark Russell Show and many others. With the support of its members, and equally as important, its volunteers WNED will continue with its mission to enlighten, inspire, entertain and educate our communities.
