Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Compeer recruits, screens, and matches trained volunteers and mentors in one to one friendship relationships with children and adults striving for good mental health. Volunteers and mentors become positive role models, help raise self esteem, increase social and communication skills, and encourage independence for their Compeer friends.

The rewards are many when you volunteer for Compeer. There are many opportunities for personal growth and satisfaction through helping others. You will also combat the stigma associated with mental illness.

Compeer of Greater Buffalo is celebrating it's 20th year of service to children and adults.

One hour a week is all that is needed to make a difference is someone's life!

You must be 18 years of age. There is an interview, a background check and a training session before a match of volunteer and friend are made.

Compeer of Greater Buffalo serves all of Erie County. You will only need to come to the Delaware Avenue address for your initial interview, a 3 hour training, and a match appointment. We will match you up with a person in an area that is convenient to you. For Angel Cards, we will bring them to you.

5 Overall Experience   
I am making friends and changing lives.

I have been a mentor with Compeer since 2007. My friend Kyle and I get together weekly. We go to the zoo, science museum, out for ice cream, or even go to the park and hang out on the swings. This summer we signed up for the Reading Rules summer reading challenge. We already read one book, and wrote a 10-sentence summary this summer.
