Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on May 8, 2009

The Project Flight BookBank Operations Co-Managers supervise all BookBank volunteers in the sorting, stamping and boxing of donated children's books. Depending on their capabilities, our volunteers may be asked to do any of the following tasks: stamp or apply stickers to books received in the BookBank; make boxes that we use to package books; collect a given amount of books and pack the books in the boxes; perform light cleanup of the BookBank such as wiping shelves, sweeping or mopping, and wiping down the tables. The atmosphere in our BookBank is friendly and the work is interesting and fulfilling as the many thousands of books received at the BookBank soon find their way to less fortunate children in Buffalo, Western New York, and beyond.

As we serve the public by providing them with books, volunteers are much appreciated as they allow the BookBank staff to process the orders of books in a timely fashion.

Each task asked of our volunteers is explained when they first arrive in the BookBank. Any and all questions are encouraged and answered fully before tasks are assigned. If there are any questions during the tasks, they will be answered promptly and in a friendly manner. If volunteers are new to the BookBank a description and purpose of the BookBank is explained to them when they arrive. There are two Project Flight BookBank co-managers: Melissa Blattner and Nick Paternostro, who are available for any questions or assistance needed by our volunteers.

We have a Volunteer Intake Form which asks for contact information, number of volunteer hours the individual prefers per week, days available, type of volunteer work preferred, any special knowledge or skill that the volunteer may wish to offer, and any previous volunteer experience.
