Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on May 7, 2009

The goal of the Joan A. Male Family Support Center is to stop the intergenerational cycle of abuse and neglect by offering services to families when parenting gets tough. The agency's participation in a Safe Sleeping Initiative will help give babies a better chance to live a healthy life. It is still poorly understood by many parents that sleeping with a baby can lead to the tragic death of infants (and even some toddlers!) by smothering when the parent rolls over. Also, putting babies to sleep on their stomachs can lead to death, while bedding or a broken crib can cause suffocation. Therefore, the Center wants to join the national "Cribs for Kids" safe sleeping campaign to become a major distributor of free or low cost cribs to families who cannot afford a safe crib. We also want to use the contact with parents to boost our educational efforts regarding SIDS and other childhood hazards.

The Joan A. Male Family Support Center is looking for a volunteer with experience in Grant Writing, Program Development, and/or Promotion so that the agency can participate in the "Safe Sleeping Initiative" as well as other programs to help children and families. Please help us help babies in WNY get a good night's sleep!

Volunteers should have experience in one or more of the following skills: Grant Writing, Program Development, and/or Promotion. They will be supervised by the Executive Director.
