Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Assist and lead group projects, including ceramics, crafts, current events, health educations, story telling, jewelry making, music appreciation, dance therapy, sewing, sports talk, etc. Volunteers with any specific talents (i.e., singing, dancing, sports interests etc.) are encouraged to share these interests with group members.
List of activities that can be run by volunteers:
Showing films, sing-a-song, drama, mystery hour (reading mysteries), people places and things (reading “People” magazine), poetry reading/writing, collages, scrapbooks, current events, trivia games, bingo, horticulture (gardening), nature crafts, print making ( e.g. sponge prints, string pulling), knitting/crocheting/weaving, teaching registrants to play an instrument, teaching folk/square dancing.
Assist with nutritional activities. Help escort clients to activities within the building and to provide escort help whenever necessary.

Special interest or expertise in a leisure activity or discussion topic. Ability to relate comfortably to adults with disabilities (geriatric population), adults with a variety of medical problems in addition to visual impairments.
A pleasant outgoing personality is needed. It is important to talk to and communicate with Guild clients, who cannot see, and therefore need to be drawn into conversation. Volunteers will need to be able to describe things and events the clients. Flexibility and willingness to learn how to be helpful, and to ask for guidance when needed.
