Volunteer Opportunity Details:
Share your enthusiasm for great architecture as a volunteer at the magnificent Graycliff estate, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Located on a bluff with sweeping views of Lake Erie, yet only 20 minutes from downtown, Graycliff’s light and airy design by Wright was one of his most innovative creations. A masterpiece hidden from view for over fifty years, Graycliff is now being rediscovered by visitors from throughout WNY, across the country, and around the globe. As a Graycliff docent, you welcome diverse visitors, and share stories about Frank Lloyd Wright, Isabelle and Darwin Martin and their family and this superb work of 20th century architecture and landscape design. You will be a host, an ambassador and a story teller. Above all, you will be at the forefront of cultural tourism in Buffalo at the Graycliff estate. To become a certified Graycliff docent, volunteers must attend the Graycliff docent-training program, offered on Saturdays in the spring. Good oral presentation skills are helpful as is an interest in history and architecture. An enthusiastic, outgoing, and friendly personality is especially appreciated. If you are fluent in a language in addition to English, we would particularly welcome your help! If you would like to help with tours but are shy about public speaking, consider becoming a tour chaperone, and help docents keep tours together. Graycliff Docents and chaperones need to be able to walk and stand for 75 minutes, and will need to climb stairs. DOCENT TRAINING BEGINS THIS SPRING - CONTACT US NOW!
