Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on March 23, 2009

We have a great number of unmatched children in our program who are patiently waiting for a volunteer. Children often ask us "When am I going to get a Big Sister or Big Brother?" We can only say, "we are trying our best to find you one." Help us make a child's wish come true and become a Big Brother or Big Sister. You don't need a lot of money or special skills, just the willingness to include another person in your life and be a friend. Although the one year commitment may seem a bit intimidating, our matches often last much longer because volunteers find their match to not only be fun, but personally satisfying as well.

Volunteers will be required to attend an orientation and training. A home visit by the caseworker to the volunteers home is also required. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, willing to submit four references, undergo a background check and driving record check, have access to an automobile and ready to be a positive role model. The commitment is for 3-5 hours weekly and a minimum of one year is required.

5 Overall Experience    Experience rating
My volunteer experience has been, and still is, wonderful.

I have been a volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Niagara County for almost 2 years now. It has been a wonderful experience, for both myself and my little sister. It is unfortunate how many children are waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister and do not have one. You only need to be open-minded, responsible and committed - you dont need to have special skills or a lot of money. Volunteer today!
