Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on November 24, 2009

Western New York Children's Psychiatric Center (WNYCPC) is located at 1010 East & West Road in West Seneca. This psychiatric hospital is located on a "park" like setting. Volunteers are needed to perform various duties including landscaping, gardening, weeding, etc. This could be done as a "onetime" volunteer experience or with the assistance of a group. Volunteer(s) will take satisfaction in providing a beautiful environment for our children, adolescents, their families, visitors and staff. This act of service will provide a therapeutic milieu for the patients and families to enjoy for days to come.

Requirements: Volunteers must participate in an interview with the Coordinator of Volunteer Services. Documentation must be provided at the time of the interview by the volunteer such as providing two references, photo identification (such as a driver's license), providing a copy of their past immunizations, complete a "State Central Register Database Check", etc. After wards, a tour of the facility will be given. Once the references are completed and the Database Check has come back to say the volunteer is clear of any abuse charges, the volunteer is placed with a competent supervisor in the Plant Operations department. A thorough orientation is done with the Coordinator of Volunteer Services concerning important Facility policies and procedures regarding safety, HIPAA, confidentiality, infection control, etc. Staff from the Plant Operations department will then give an Orientation to the volunteer. Volunteers must be able to work alongside staff, learn from their talents, be competent, and be able to accept staff's guidance. In addition, they must be able to work by themselves at times.
