Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on November 24, 2009

Volunteers are needed to assist the clerical staff from both Western New York Children's Psychiatric Center's (WNYCPC's) inpatient hospital and several of our Community Services sites including our Alberta Drive location in Amherst. Duties include filing, typing, data entry, providing phone coverage, reception/switchboard duties, meeting minutes taking, dictation, transcription, etc.

Requirements: Potential Volunteer must participate in an interview with the Coordinator of Volunteer Services. Documentation must be provided at the time of the interview by the potential volunteer such as two references, photo identification (such as a driver's license), provide a copy of their past immunizations, complete a "State Central Register Database Check" etc. After wards, a tour of the facility will be given. Once the references are completed and the Database Check has come back to say the volunteer is clear of any abuse charges, the volunteer is placed with a competent mentor/supervisor. A thorough orientation is done with the Coordinator of Volunteer Services concerning important Facility policies and procedures regarding safety, HIPAA, confidentiality, infections control, etc.

Staff from the Clerical department will give an Orientation. Volunteers must be able to work alongside staff, learn from their talents, be competent, and able to accept staff's guidance.

Past volunteers have stated that this was a rewarding as well as a learning experience.
