Adolescent Services - Living Unit 805 patients range in age from 10- 18 years of age. Patients are admitted from an 8 counties area to receive care from this Unit. Erie County provides the largest group of patients to this Unit. Volunteers will assist the members of this treatment team providing care to our adolescents and their families. Services provided to the adolescents and their families receiving care from this unit include Psychiatric, Pediatric, Psychological, Social, Nursing, Recreational, Occupational, Educational, Psycho-educational, Nutritional, Pharmacy, Religious, Vocational Rehabilitation, etc. Volunteers are needed in a variety of roles to assist the staff from these various programs.

Adolescent Services Volunteer opportunities include mentoring, reading stories, arts & crafts, recreation activities, providing musical lessons, teaching in our educational class rooms, providing child care during family sessions, etc. Volunteers on this Unit find this to be a rewarding as well as an educational experience.

Requirements: Volunteers must participate in an interview with the Coordinator of Volunteer Services. Documentation must be provided at the time of the interview by the potential volunteer such as providing two references, photo identification (such as a driver's license), provide a copy of their past immunizations, complete a "State Central Register Database Check" etc. After wards, a tour of the facility will be given. Once the references are completed and the Database Check has been returned to say that the potential volunteer has not been subject of an indicated case of child abuse and maltreatment as defined in accordance with the provisions and limitations of section 424-a of the Social Services Law, the volunteer is placed with a competent mentor/supervisor. A thorough orientation is done with the Coordinator of Volunteer Services concerning important Facility policies and procedures regarding safety, HIPAA, confidentiality, dress code, infection control, patient safety, etc.

Once the volunteer feels competent in their knowledge of these policies, staff members from the Adolescent Services department will then provide a tour and orientation to the Adolescent Services policies. Volunteers must be able to work alongside staff, learn from their talents, be competent & dependable, and be able to accept staff's guidance.
