Volunteer Opportunity Details:
Western New York Children Psychiatric Center is committed to treating children, adolescents and their families who are experiencing mental illness. One component of our commitment help to empower families with the tools to provide a stable, healthy environment for their children. One such toll is education given at WNYCPC's Common Sense Parenting Program which provides free training for parents/guardians/agency staff we serve. Volunteers are needed to provide child care to the children of the participants. Because there are many children attending the meetings, it is imperative that we have several volunteers to work with the children during planned activities. Activities include but are not limited to: drawing, painting, watching movies, and reading stories. The children may range in age from two months old through 18 years old. Volunteers must participate in an interview with the Coordinator of Volunteer Services. Documentation must be provided at the time of the interview by the volunteer such as providing two references, photo identification (such as a driver's license), provide a copy of their past immunizations, complete a "State Central Register Database" etc. After wards, a tour of the facility will be given. Once the references are completed and the Database Check has come back to say the volunteer is clear of any abuse charges, the volunteer is introduced to the Common Sense parenting team they will be working with. A thorough orientation is done withe Coordinator of Volunteer Services concerning important Facility policies and procedures regarding safety, HIPAA, confidentiality, infection control, etc. Staff from the Common Sense Parenting Program will provide an Orientation to the program. Volunteers must be able to work alongside staff and other volunteers, learn from their talents, be competent & dependable, dress appropriately, be firm and provide structure, have appropriate boundaries, and be able to accept staff's guidance. This opportunity is sponsored by: Western New York Children's Psychiatric Center (WNYCPC)
