Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on October 15, 2009

Here is your opportunity to be an active volunteer at a world-class Frank Lloyd Wright historic house museum. The Darwin Martin House in Buffalo, NY, is one of the great American architect's signature Prairie Houses from the early years of his celebrated career. Now under restoration, it is regarded worldwide as a masterpiece, and is visited by guests from around the globe. As a Certified Martin House Docent (interpretive guide)you will be the person who will greet a wide variety of visitors to the Martin House and who will tell the stories of Frank Lloyd Wright, Darwin D. Martin and this great work of 20th century architecture. You will be a host, an ambassador and a story teller. Above all, you will be on the front line of cultural tourism in Buffalo at the Martin House.

To become a certified Martin House docent, volunteers must first work as a Martin House chaperone, attend the Martin House docent-training program and complete additional requirements under the guidance of senior mentoring docents. Good oral presentation skills are an asset, as is an interest in history and architecture. An enthusiastic, outgoing, and friendly personality would be an asset in this position.
