Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on October 19, 2009

Volunteers are matched with a resident of the Berks County Prison and through weekly visits, provide guidance, friendship and support. By sharing life experiences, volunteers can offer alternate ways of dealing with frustration, anger and conflict. Volunteers also work with the inmate in improving decision-making and coping skills so that the resident can make positive changes in their life prior to their release back into the community.

You must be 18 years of age or older. Must complete a training, clearance and orientation process. Commitment of one visit per week. Interested volunteers can contact Christine Reichardt at info@berksconnections.org.

my mother's example
Not, that I was a volunteer. My mother was. I remember her dedication and satisfaction of helping others and helping herself at the same time. My mother had the daunting task of raising my brother and I as a single mom, and found a way to get her college degrees, Bachelor's and a double Master's in Psychology and Counseling. Plus she worked full time for the Reading School District, offering others who don't normally have a chance to succeed, the ability to see their strengths and qualities to do so. My mother was the consummate example of what a volunteer does and what volunteering can do for others. This feedback is in memory of my mom Ann S. (Brown)Troutman. Lovingly her daughter Lisa Renee' Brown-Sylvia
