Every year United Way of Berks County hosts a signature event that brings volunteers together in service to their community. But this year is especially meaningful as we connect many of our volunteer engagement opportunities to our most important focus areas – education, health, income, and safety net services in order to begin creating a lasting and impactful change in critical community conditions.
At first glance, painting a mural on a school wall may not seem like an important project in an educational setting or that building a garden has an impact on learning or ones emotional state. However research tells us that when the learning environment is warm and inviting and allows children to be active participants in their learning, children feel connected and look forward to school. An inviting environment sets the stage for creativity to blossom and results in children having the motivation to achieve – a critical component of positive student outcomes and job readiness.
This is one example of how United Way is connecting volunteers with opportunities that make a difference. Below is a list of projects that aims to improve our environment, make meaningful connections with seniors, mentor children and help them to succeed in school, and provide food and other basic needs for those less fortunate. Your time, talent and belief that together we can indeed make a difference is all it takes to LIVE UNITED.
Be part of the change.
United Way of Berks County sincerely thanks you for joining us as we reach out in unity on this Day of Caring.
