Anderson County Adult Education & Literacy Program
The Anderson County Adult Education & Literacy Program provides and promotes educational services that enable educationally disadvantaged adults attain basic literacy skills so they can set goals, develop potential, and function on the job and in society.
Description:
The Anderson County Adult Education & Literacy Program provides free individualized instruction to undereducated adults, age 16 years and older, who desire to improved their ability to read, write, speak English, compute, solve problems, and function in the workplace, family, and society. The program has several main instructional components: GED exam preparation; adult basic education instruction in reading, writing, and math; English as a second language instruction; workplace skills instruction; and family literacy instruction, which includes a developmentally structured children's program.
History:
The first adult learning center opened approximately 20 years ago at 124 South Main Street in Lawrenceburg. A second learning center is located on campus at Blue Grass Community & Technical College - Lawrenceburg Campus and has been in operation since 1995. On October 31, 2007 the Main Street learning center closed, and on November 1 the program opened the doors of a new learning center at 219 East Woodford Street in Lawrenceburg.
