     Adopt-A-Plot for Annuals/Perennials Participants

PURPOSE:
Care for an assigned plot through the growing season. Assist with planting if you are available when the staff schedules your plot. Additional tasks include weeding, deadheading, and other assignments agreed upon by the Horticulturist and Adopt-a-Plot Chair.

QUALIFICATIONS

·Be physically able to kneel, bend and weed.
·Have an interest in caring for plants and expanding your knowledge of plants and gardening practices.
·Be willing to seek direction and guidance when necessary.

EXPECTATIONS:
·Select a definite area prior to, or during, Arbor Day at The Arboretum. An individual, organization or several persons may adopt the plot. Priority is given to the previous year’s “adopter”.
·Attend the Orientation Session for Volunteers and the scheduled session with the Adopt-a-Plot Chair.
·Maintain the plot on a regular basis once a week from May through the first week of October. One or two hours per week are usually necessary. Inform the chairperson if you will be on vacation or unable to keep this schedule.
·Clean up after your work, disposing of debris in designated area.
·Contact The Arboretum Horticulturist or Adopt-a-Plot Chair if you have questions or concerns (staking, insects, etc.).
·Keep a record of tasks performed and amount of time you have volunteered.
