Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on August 3, 2009

To ensure continuous coverage of its 24-hour crisis line, the Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center is in need of volunteers. Upon successful completion of a 40-hour training, volunteers will: answer the 24-hour crisis line; provide support and information for victims and their loved ones; meet immediate victims at local emergency rooms and police stations; staff information tables at local community events. Volunteers answer the crisis line in their own homes via call forwarding and shift choice is flexible.

All volunteers must first complete an application/interview process, reference check and background criminal record check prior to being admitted into the training. Volunteers must then complete a 40-hour training session that takes place over the course of one Friday evening and three Saturdays. We realize that this training is lengthy, but necessary to fully prepare volunteers for the issues they will be facing in their work. A 6-month commitment is needed and applicants must be 20 years old. The training is free of charge.
