The Manchester Center is a full-service community center with a mission "to enrich the lives in our neighborhood through educational, recreational, and social activities." The main population the Manchester Center serves is very diverse, very poor and isolated from the rest of the city. Many residents and their families have lived in the area for over twenty years and approximately half earn an annual income of less then $17,000. The Manchester Center provides access to services, events and information. They offer programs in the areas of youth development and social services, conduct various community events and provide a full-day, year-round, licensed preschool.
There is a great opportunity to volunteer for the Manchester Center assisting the Youth Development Program Coordinator. Volunteers work in planning and supervising recreational and/or educational activities for children ages 5 to 14 in our after school and summer programs. Volunteers would work directly with children tutoring, mentoring, assisting with Kids' Cafe, participating in events and field trips, etc. You can volunteer one time or on a regular basis.
Interested volunteers can contact Danielle Gilchrist, Social Services Coordinator, (phone), (email)
