VITA site volunteers will file taxes for low-income families at free tax sites. Families may receive their returns within 7-10 days using this process and may save up to $200 by coming to a VITA site. Volunteers will only prepare simple tax forms (1040 and Schedule A). Schedules B and C will not be prepared by volunteers. Volunteers will need to commit 2-4 hours per week from February 1 - April 15 to this project. Anyone can be a volunteer. Volunteers will need to complete a training and short test. Most volunteers are prepared to file taxes by attending an 8-hour training. To qualify as a volunteer, you need to be able to use a computer and have filed simple tax forms at some point in your life.
