Agency Details:
MARC:Community Resources
MARC:Community Resources empowers adults and children who have intellectual and developmental disabilities to realize their dreams and make choices about their lives. MARC provides people with choices for housing, employment, and social / recreational life.
Description:
MARC:Community Resources provides community based employment for people who have disabilities. Community based group homes, apartment living, and home ownership compose our residential program. Over 150 children and adults participate in the recreation program. Saturday for Kids is the most recent addition to that program. Most volunteers are needed in the Saturday for Kids program that meets on Saturdays in Cromwell two to three Saturdays per month from 9AM to 1PM.
History:
In 1955, eight families sought public school education for their children with disabilities. This small but determined group of parents petitioned the Middletown Board of Education and in 1955 children with intellectual and developmental disabilities were admitted to the public school system. Since that date the agency has grown and changed as the children aged and as more consumers joined the agency.
