Description:
Prevent Child Abuse Connecticut, a program of Wheeler Clinic, is a nonprofit program that provides family support and education services to prevent child abuse and neglect. The educational services include trainings for mandated reporters, home visitors, child care providers and school personnel. Volunteers are trained to facilitate the Kids on the Block personal safety puppetry program for children. Family support services include a statewide network of parent support groups using the Circle of Parents model. The program also administers the child abuse prevention warm-line 1-800-CHILDREN for parents and providers to access information statewide.
History:
Since 1978, Prevent Child Abuse Connecticut has been providing family support services and education to fulfill its mission to prevent all forms of child abuse and neglect. The program is the state chapter to the Circle of Parents national network as well as Prevent Child Abuse America, and shares the vision in which every child lives in a community committed to preventing child abuse.
