The Friends of Heublein Tower Inc. is a non-profit, volunteer organization created in 1984 to restore the Heublein Tower and to interpret the surrounding grounds.
Description:
The Friends of Heublein Tower Inc. (founded in 1984) is registered as a 501c-3 non-profit corporation. The Co-Presidents are Edward P. Adajian of West Hartford and Kathy Hoidge of Canton. The board of directors consists of 12 local residents who contribute time and money to facilitate the many restoration projects at the Heublein Tower. The tower ca. 1914, the former summer home of Gilbert and Louise Heublein, is listed as a National Historic Site. The "Friends" operate w/o any compensated employees.
History:
Over the last eighteen years,The Friends of Heublein Tower have made great strides in restoring the Heublein tower atop Talcott Mountain in Simsbury. Many projects have been successfully completed, with perhaps the most notable being the exterior renovation project completed in the spring of 1999. The "Cupola", weathervane and spire were recreated and installed on the Tower, as well as a new barrel tile roof, and a full refurbishing of the Tower exterior. The "Friends" contributed $100K towards this nearly $600K project. The rest paid for by the State of CT.
