Immaculate Conception Shelter and Housing Corporation

Because housing is a human right, Immaculate Conception Shelter & Housing Corporation will provide housing and decent shelter with unconditional love to those with no other options.

Description:
Immaculate's mission continues with its transition to a Housing First Model. This is a process which will transform the organization from providing solely emergency shelter and services to offering permanent supportive housing as a solution. This year the number of individuals in their own apartments doubled from last year to 70 people served.

Currently, Immaculate provides supportive services to participants of the Casa de Francisco Housing Program through a team approach. Members of the team include; a mental health practitioner, an employment coordinator, housing specialist and several case managers who provide generalized services to clients.

Our seasonal emergency shelter for men provides services to 70 permanent beds. Some services that we provide are case management services, food, street outreach, clothing. We are currently working on switching our focus from emergency services to permanent supportive housing, including a single-site housing program in addition to our many scattered-site apartments.

History:
Our shelter was originally started by the Immaculate Conception Church when an individual was found frozen to death near the property. With the premise that this would not be allowed to happen again, the basement of the church was open to individuals in need of shelter. It has continued to grow into what it is today-- a private, non-profit agency which serves the most chronic, hard to reach, homeless men in the city of Hartford.
