If you are interested in future deployment to a disaster location within the U.S., this is the time to get started. Nationally deployed disaster volunteers are trained to respond within 1-3 specialized activities and typically serve for 14 to 21 days, but it could also be a short-term assignment in states near Connecticut. In addition to successfully completing training within their activities, volunteers must submit an annual health form and serve locally in one of our Activity Groups in their primary activity. (See "Disaster Activity Group" listing.) To become a registered American Red Cross volunteer, you must attend a New Volunteer Orientation, have an interview, complete and return all required paperwork, pass a background check. Disaster volunteers must be 18 years of age or older; willing to make commitment to position; in good health and willing to work hard; attend training classes as well as special training sessions in the latest disaster techniques and procedures; attend regular meetings and drills; provide proof of personal health insurance.
