What other volunteer experience do you know of where you can meet with people three times and know they will have a better understanding of how to change their financial future? If you have a desire to help low to moderate income working families in the community gain the skills and resources necessary to become more financially stable and more aware of other financial education resources, please consider being a volunteer budget coach.
What do I need to know?
You’ll be provided with training and a step by step curriculum that will equip you with all of the information you will need to have an immediate and positive impact on the lives of others. Previous coaching experience or financial training is not required.
What is the commitment?
After completing the training, each coach will be assigned to someone who indicated an interest in developing a practical budget with the help of a volunteer coach. Participants may be individuals who have had taxes prepared at volunteer income tax assistance (VITA) centers or who have been identified by participating community based organizations. VITA sites in Hartford or New Britain will be used for budget coaching sessions unless other arrangements have been made by the program coordinator.
You and the participant will have three monthly meetings with a phone call check-in between meetings. As a result of the meetings and phone calls, the participant will have a better understanding of his/her finances and how budgeting contributes to a more stable financial future.
Training
Volunteers must attend Part I and Part II of training. Part I is offered November 5th and December 10th from 5 to 9 pm, Part II is offered November 7th and December 12th from 5 to 9 pm. Or, attend Parts I and II combined, offered November 17th and December 8th from 9 am to 4 pm. Registration is required. On-site group training may also be considered for groups of 12 or more.
