Hospice volunteers provide practical assistance and emotional support to hospice patients and their family members. They participate as an active part of the care team and assists the team in meeting the needs of the patient and family. Hospice volunteers may also act as bereavement volunteers offering support to grieving families through home visits, telephone calls and support groups. Volunteers also provide community education and outreach. Volunteers should have a positive approach to life, excellent listening skills, respect for individual differences and beliefs and a commitment to the philosophy and goals of the hospice concept. Volunteers are also required to successfully complete the Hospice Training Program. The next training will begin October 25.
