Agency Details:
Health Education Council
To promote healthy communities in Sacramento and surrounding counties. The Health Education Council is dedicated to providing access, education, advocacy, and training to empower individuals towards a healthy life.
Description:
The Health Education Council is a non-profit organization focused primarily on eliminating preventable causes of death resulting from the use of tobacco, poor nutrition, and lack of physical activity. Our public health programs meet the needs of diverse communities by increasing access to health-related knowledge and information. From nutrition education and community engagement for students at Grant High School, to tobacco cessation resources and training, to developing community gardens, farmers markets, and access to safe and affordable physical activity, we work with our communities to bring healthy, sustainable changes to their lives.
History:
Founded in 1991, the Health Education started as the Hypertension Council. We changed our name to reflect our broader reach and have continued to address the health needs of the communities that otherwise do not have a voice for care, or access to healthy environments.
