Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on April 14, 2009

Jamie* is five years old. His mother abandoned him. His dad left him in the car during a drug deal that went sour when police showed up – it was below freezing.

Jamie has been in three foster homes in two months. His dad recently was taken to prison on a parole violation. Jamie’s grandparents have been contacted and though they have knowledge of where his mother is, they are not telling, nor will they assume care for him.

Jamie is just one of the children that CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) can help. CASA’s advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children in Court and in life. Jamie is waiting…Waiting for someone to listen to him. Waiting for someone to be his voice. Jamie is waiting for a CASA.

Becoming a CASA volunteer may be one of the most rewarding things you do this year! CASA El Dorado is seeking Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) volunteers to join those already trained for this worthy endeavor.

CASA’s are specially trained volunteers who are appointed by judges to help children as they move through the court system due to abuse or neglect. Together, with devoted volunteers, CASA El Dorado has helped thousands of vulnerable children. New referrals come in frequently so there are always children waiting for an advocate, a champion in their corner.

Volunteer training classes are scheduled to begin in May and September 2009. For additional facts about CASA, or CASA’s mission, please call CASA El Dorado at (530)621-6760.

*Name and identifying information changed due to confidential court proceedings.

Satisfactory back ground screening and finger print clearance required. 30 hours of training and 6 hours of court observation also required before assignment. Time commitment approximately 10 to 15 hours per month. Must be 21 or over.
