The American Liver Foundation (ALF) is the nation's leading nonprofit organization promoting liver health and disease prevention. ALF provides research, education and advocacy for those affected by liver disease.

Description:
Liver disease affects an estimated 30 million Americans, more than those affected by cancer and diabetes combined. There are about 100 types of liver disease, and the American Liver Foundation is committed to funding research, educating patients, medical professionals and the public, and advocating for the needs of those affected.

ALF is governed by a Home Office in New York with 25 chapters throughout the nation. The Heartland Chapter serves the states of Indiana and Kentucky. Nationally and locally, ALF is under new staff leadership, and our stakeholders are currently engaged in a strategic planning process to ensure we make an even bigger impact in the future to change the lives of those with liver disease.

The American Liver Foundation holds several fundraising events each year, including Flavors of Indianapolis, the Salute to Excellence gala and the Liver Life Walk. The ALF also provides local educational opportunities for health care professionals and the general public.

History:
The American Liver Foundation was founded in 1976, and the Indiana Chapter was formed in 2002. In 2008, we changed our name to the Heartland Chapter, as we expanded our service territory to include Indiana and Kentucky. Now is an exciting time of growth and opportunity for both the Heartland Chapter and the national organization!
