Title: Administrative Volunteer
Reports to: Volunteer Services Coordinator & Executive Assistant
Approved by: Executive Director

Roles & Responsibilities:

The Administrative Volunteer’s primary responsibility is to assist in daily administrative needs of the shelter. This position requires communication and interaction with shelter staff, residents and the general public. The volunteer is often times the first and/or only person with whom the public interacts with when coming to or calling the shelter. The volunteer should represent Sheltering Wings with integrity and professionalism.

General Administrative Volunteer Duties:

  1. Assists in ensuring all guests comply with safety and confidentiality procedures.
  2. Assists in answering phone calls between 9am to 4pm Monday through Friday, routing to appropriate staff. Occasional evening shifts available.
  3. Assists in answering the door for guests and residents.
  4. Assists in accepting donations and documents appropriately.
  5. Provides friendly, professional, Christ-like customer service to callers and walk-in guests.
  6. Aids in the preparation of large mailings, as needed.

  7. Teamwork:
  8. Completes all specific tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
  9. Works cooperatively with staff and other volunteers to ensure residents’ needs are met.
  10. Communicates with the Executive Assistant on schedule changes and other needs.
  11. Shows courtesy, compassion and respect towards others.
  12. Exercise good Biblical judgment in all situations.
  13. Requirements:

    1. Well developed communication and people skills.
    2. Knowledge of and ability to perform routine office/clerical duties.
    3. Telephone experience preferred.
    4. Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner.
    5. Computer skills preferred, but not required.
