2010 Save-Earn-Learn; Indy's Campaign for Financial Fitness REGISTER TO VOLUNTEER!         The 2010 Save-Earn-Learn; Indy's Campaign for Financial Fitness program is a city-wide initiative led by the Indianapolis Asset Building Coalition (IABC) and supported by United Way of Central Indiana.  During tax season 2010, the IABC will provide free tax filing assistance and referrals to financial education programs to over 5,000 low to moderate income families, disabled individuals, elderly and individuals with limited English proficiency.  This tax assistance will help tax filer receive all available tax refunds including earned income tax credits.   Volunteer tax preparers, screeners, reviewers and assistants are needed to work at 8 community center sites.  Several one day events requiring volunteers will also occure during the tax season.  Specific dates and locations will be announced by December 31, 2009.  Not only will volunteers help with tax preparation service, but they have the potential to make a difference in someone's life by offering them access to tools on how to become financially fit.  Volunteers are asked to serve a minimum of 10 hours from January 18, 2010 through April 15, 2010.  All Volunteer tax preparers, quality reviewers, and experts must be certified by the Internal Revenue Service annually in order to prepare taxes for community members.  The certification process requires volunteers to pass an IRS approved test.  Tax training and the test is available on the IRS web site at:   Link & Learn Taxes www.irs.gov/app/vita/index.jsp.   Non-tax preparer volunteers are also needed.  These positions include greeter/assistant, Kids Corner (available at selected locations only), screener, and asset volunteer.  All volunteers will receive free training.  Volunteers are needed at all 8 Save-Earn-Learn sites.
