2009-2010 ReadUP Tutoring Registration Open

RSS XML FeedBackground Active Jun 26, 2009 to Jan 29, 2010

ReadUP tutoring registration is now live for the 2009-2010 school year. Change a child's future. Tutor. We need your help and talent as we seek 1500 tutors to help 4th and 5th grader improve reading skills and the love of reading.

ReadUP connects volunteer tutors with 4th and 5th graders who are reading below grade level.  ReadUP tutors work with these students on vocabulary, fluency and comprehension to enhance their skill level one hour per week for the school year (starting in October or September 2009 through May 2010). For additional information, see www.readupindy.org.

Both individual and partnering opportunities are available. Note: Timeslots are subject to change upon enrollment.

Individuals: Commit to tutoring two students one hour per week (30 minutes per student) throughout the school year.

Partners: Work with another volunteer (a co-worker, friend, etc.), and alternate tutoring two students one hour per week (30 minutes per student) throughout the school year. This is a great option for those who find it challenging to commit to weekly tutoring.

If you are unsure about which ReadUP school to choose or would like to volunteer at a school where the greatest need is, please contact us at 317-925-READ or
ReadUP@uwci.org, and we will be happy to help you. One semester options may be available by contacting ReadUP staff.

All ReadUP Volunteers are required to attend one 90-minute training session.  Groups of ten or more can arrange training at their organization.
