Join the Cycling Cyclura and help the Zoo host our second annual bicycling fundraiser, the Wild Ride!  With an estimated 1,000 riders traveling route distances as few as 14 miles or as many as 100 miles, we need many energetic people to volunteer for this event on Saturday, September 9.  To register, please read the following Job Descriptions and complete the Wild Ride Volunteer Registration form.

Wild Ride Volunteer Job Descriptions

 


 

Event Set-Up

(Friday, September 8)

 

Set Up

Set up tables and chairs in Zoo parking lot

1-4pm

 

Day of Event

(Saturday, September 9)

 

Volunteer Check-in

Direct Volunteers to their shift location.

5:30am-10:30am

 

 

Rider Registration

Check-in participants and help move out tables and chairs at end of shift. 5:30am-10:30am

 

 

Course Marshals (various locations)

Stationed at key intersections on the course in Marion, Boone, and Hamilton Counties, these volunteers will direct the riders to the next section of the course.  Volunteer must provide own transportation to the site.

Shift times vary with location

 

 

Rest Stop Assistants (various locations) Stock tables with drinks and snacks for riders. Cheer and encourage riders to continue.  Help clean up area at end of shift.  

Shifts vary between 7am-5pm

 

Oversight Team

Assist with final event details.  Monitor area to offer assistance to bike shops, direct riders, keep area clean, etc. Help set up tables and chairs

5:30am-10:30am or 10:30am-3:30pm

 

 

T-Shirt/Jersey Distribution

Hand out T-shirts and sell jerseys.

 5:30am-10:30am

 

 

Massage Tent Hosts

Direct guests to open massage chairs, help answer questions about activities

Noon-5pm

 

 

Zoo Volunteer Naturalists

Interpret artifacts and animal exhibits (Zoo Volunteers trained as Naturalists only) Various locations and shift times

 

 

Zoo Mascots and Guides

Cheer on the riders as they arrive back at the Zoo (Must be trained as a mascot or guide) Various locations and times

 

 

Cheer Squad (various locations)

Cheer on the riders as they arrive at the rest stops and back at the Zoo-bring signs, pom poms, noise makers, etc.

Due to the magnitude and multiple locations of this event, it is necessary for all Volunteers to attend Wild Ride Orientation.  We are offering three dates to accommodate Volunteer schedules (August 26, August 30, and August 31).  All Orientations will be held in the Zoo Education Center, which is located just to the right of the Zoo Admission Gate.  Please confirmation date of Orientation on Registration Form.
