Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on August 26, 2009

Volunteers will promote young childhood literacy by participating in activities with preschool school and kindergarten age children in local child care centers. The project can include the following components:
• Running a new book drive, so that each child in the classrooms receives a new, age-appropriate book to take home and/or new books are available for use in the classroom
• Reading circles for children, where volunteers will take turns reading books on a particular topic to children in the classroom setting.
• Volunteers interacting with children to do literacy-based crafts, games or activities
• Sharing a healthy snack with children – and talking to the children about the importance of eating healthy to help them be prepared for learning.

New books (if possible), craft supplies, healthy snack items.
Please contact United Way three weeks prior to the project date.

5 Overall Experience    Experience rating
felt good to volunteer to help school children go back to school with their own supplies
My son and I met and worked with very nice people who made this first sorting experience pleasant. We also felt good about what we did and would definitely do it again.
