The Quaboag Valley CDC's mission is to improve the quality of life in the Quaboag Valley* by addressing the economic, environmental, and social needs of its residents while maintaining the integrity and character of each community in the region.

*includes the towns of Spencer, New Braintree, East Brookfield, Brookfield, North Brookfield, West Brookfield and Warren in addition to Belchertown, Ware, Palmer, Monson, Brimfield Holland and Wales.

Description:
The QVCDC is a member-based nonprofit that is engaged in community economic development focusing on the needs of small businesses, their employees and persons seeking new or enhanced business skills; it serves a 15 town region in west-central Massachusetts. Products include loans to businesses that cannot access equivalent financing from a bank*, business training and technical assistance. Training programs are in the areas of business planning, financial literacy, workforce preparedness and computer skills. The QVCDC also provides individual technical assistance for businesses with fewer than 20 employees. Periodically the QVCDC engages in other community economic development projects including brownfields assessment, feasibility studies and commercial development.

  • History:
    The QVCDC was formed in 1997 to expand upon the loan activity of the QVBAC which had been formed in 1995. Since 1995, over $3 million in loans has been disbursed to area businesses through the QVBAC. Since 1997 the CDC has trained over 1,000 individuals in computer skills, averaging 2 courses per person and taught 199 pre-venture, early stage or existing businesses in a 10 or 12 week business planning course. Individual business technical assistance was added in November, 2006. Since then, over 125 businesses have received such assistance in the form of accounting, marketing, legal and general business planning through the CDC.
