Refugee And Immigrant Assistance Center
The Refugee and Immigrant Assistance Center (RIAC)'s mission is to support refugees and other immigrants in developing the skills they need to successfully resettle in their new country.
Description:
RIAC has had an office in Worcester since 2003. It is a small, community based refugee resettlement agency. Each year close to 100 new refugees come to Worcester through RIAC. These refugees come from many different countries including Somalia, Burma and Iraq. RIAC works closely with individuals and families to ensure they have the resources they need, access services that help them get employed and adjust to living in Worcester.
History:
Founded in 1993, RIAC was originally called the Somali Woman and Children's Association. Based in Boston, RIAC now has offices also in Lynn and Worcester. Refugee resettlement is done through a contract with the national organization, Ethiopian Community Development Council.
