BayPath Elder Services Money Management Program

To promote and prolong independent living for low-income elders through the healthy management of their day-to-day finances. This is achieved through the dedication and support of screened and trained money management volunteers.

Description:
BayPath Elder Services Money Management Program recruits and trains volunteers to assist low income persons 60 years and older and younger disabled individuals in managing their day-to-day finances. Volunteers assist in organizing bills, writing checks, and balance checkbooks as well as advocating for their clients with creditors when necessary. Services are free to eligible individuals who live in Ashland, Dover, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Hudson, Marlborough, Natick, Northborough, Sherborn, Southborough, Sudbury, Wayland, Westborough.


History:
The Massachusetts Money Management Program was developed as a joint venture between the Executive Office of Elder Affairs, American Association of Retired Persons (AARP)/Legal Counsel for the Elderly (LCE) and Mass Home Care. The program is administered by LCE which develops overall policy relating to the program operation. Client accounts and program volunteers are insured through AARP up to a maximum of $10,000 for any loss or misuse of funds. BayPath began its Money Management Program in September 1991 with seed money from Shearson Lehman.
