Family Health Center Of Worcester, Inc.
The mission of the Family Health Center of Worcester, Inc. (FHC) is to improve the health and well-being of underserved and culturally diverse Worcester area residents through the provision of high quality, comprehensive, and continuous primary health care, dental, behavioral health and social services. We respectfully and compassionately care for patients in the context of their family, culture and community.
Description:
Family Health Center provides services for both individuals and families through the "family practice" model of care, which ensures continuity of care for both adults and children. In addition to providing top quality primary care, we offer lab, radiology (including mammography and ultrasound), dental, mental health, pharmacy, WIC and other nutrition counseling, case management, and health education services. Specialty care programs include our nationally recognized Homeless Families program; an HIV+ Care Team providing counseling and testing, primary and specialty care; Prenatal and Well-child programs; Tuberculosis, INS Physicals, Women's Health and Disease Management, an ADHD clinic, Teen Health Afterschool Clinic and the Southeast Asian Health Program. School-based health centers in four local schools, Oral Health Screening and Fluoride Treatment programs in various schools in Worcester and Webster, and 3 satellite WIC offices in Worcester and Millbury extend our services further into the community. Through our Urgent Care department, we are open evenings and Saturdays and medical providers are on call whenever the health center is closed.
History:
Family Health Center is located at 26 Queen Street, in the former City Hospital. Begun by the city of Worcester as a model city project in 1970, Family Health was incorporated and became a federally qualified community health center in 1972. We became a teaching facility in 1974, as a site for the University of Massachusetts Medical School Family Practice Residency Program. All of our medical providers have faculty appointments at UMMS. In 2005, FHC became the inaugural site for UMMS's new Dental Residency Program. We are a site for various healthcare internship programs in collaboration with other local educational institutes. Begun as a storefront in Main South, all services were consolidated at our current location in 1995.
