HMEA (Horace Mann Educational Associates) supports children and adults with developmental disabilities such as autism and downs syndrome at home, in school, at work and in the community. We believe in the "power of dreams, not the limitation of disabilities." HMEA celebrates diversity and actively supports staff in their own learning and professional development.
Description:
HMEA provides Children's, Residential, Employment and Family Supports to over 2400 people, ages 1 through 92, and their families, in 120 communities in Massachusetts. Our agency employs 600 staff including Clinical, Nursing and Staff Development personnel. The main office is in Franklin and the service area extends to Central, Eastern and Southeastern Massachusetts.
History:
The organization was founded in 1961 and was renamed in 1982 after Horace Mann, a renowned educator born in Franklin who said "be ashamed to die until you have achieved something for mankind."
